Is there a speed difference between automatic and manual encoding or decoding of open type values?

No, there is no difference for encoding or decoding single OpenType values. The difference is in ease of use, particularly the amount of application code that you have to write when doing manual encoding.

But encoding and decoding a PDU with many OpenTypes is in general more expensive because in automatic mode the encoder and decoder need to traverse the relevant information object set or sets in order to check the component relation constraints imposed, and in the case of automatic decoding to find the sub-PDU number for the real ASN.1 type value being decoded.
