Extended XML Encoding Rules -
Complete Standard XML with a Single Tool
The OSS Nokalva ASN.1 Tools, with support for Extended XML Encoding Rules, E-XER, enable you to take full advantage of the merging of XML and ASN.1 - two complementary technologies.
XML - Easy to Use, Resource Hungry
There are several advantages in using an XML format. You can easily identify and isolate parts of a document, facilitating the partial processing of a document by different systems. Extracting information from an XML document for input to a database is also easy. Data mining is simplified - no matter what document an XML element is embedded in, the element can be identified and extracted easily. New protocols in Biometrics, e-business and e-Health are being defined in XML.
XML verbosity, however, remains an issue, impacting not just communications bandwidth, but the CPU-cycles needed to generate and process messages.
ASN.1 & XML - Best of Both
ASN.1 is a powerful and widely used notation for the specification of binary transfers. It provides a clear separation of the information content of documents from the encoding or representation of those documents. This separation is ASN.1’s major strength as a schema notation.
ASN.1 can now be used as a schema language for XML, with the added advantage of the availability of extremely compact binary encodings.
ASN.1 with E-XER produces complete, standard, XML documents. E-XER encoding instructions in an ASN.1 specification enable you to ensure that the form of the generated XML document will match that defined by other schema specifications, and that the form will be consistent with that expected by other XML tools. You get complete interoperability with other XML tools.
Best of Both Technologies
The OSS ASN.1 Tools with E-XER let you enjoy the best of both ASN.1 and XML.
- Produce highly compact binary encoding
- Produce complete, standard XML
- Adhere to ITU-T X.693 standards
- Achieve interoperability between ASN.1 and XML based applications
