OSS NAS Tools for Java

In response to customer requests to support the NAS (Non-Access-Stratum) protocol for 5G and LTE/EPC (3GPP TS 24.501, 3GPP TS 24.301), OSS Nokalva has developed a set of productivity enhancing tools that free customers from the task of writing software to create, process, debug and test NAS messages. This task is particularly time consuming and error prone when dealing with changes in the 3GPP releases. Now customers can focus on their core business instead.

NAS tools

The OSS NAS Tools facilitates the creation, encoding, decoding, and processing of messages conforming to the 3GPP Technical Specifications 24.301 and 24.501. It is available on Windows, Linux, and macOS for Java.

The OSS NAS Tools takes care of all of the unique aspects of NAS message serialization such as, required and optional information elements, bit-level format of each type of information element, bit order, half-octet order, and so on. A developer using the OSS NAS Tools works with a set of Java classes provided with the product, and makes simple calls to encode and decode functions, as well as to other useful functions which are available.

Current users of OSS' ASN.1 Java Tools will feel at home with the OSS NAS Tools API because both the API and the Java classes are very similar to those used with protocols specified in ASN.1.

The OSS NAS Tools API supports

  • Encoding and decoding NAS protocol data units.
  • Printing decoded or unencoded NAS protocol data units in XML or JSON form.
  • Copying NAS protocol data units.
  • Comparing unencoded or decoded NAS protocol data units.
  • Converting binary NAS messages to XML or JSON form.

NOTE: This product is sold by technology (LTE/EPC or 5G) and major 3GPP release (14, 15, 16, or 17).
