What are ASN.1 Octet Encoding Rules (OER)?

Octet Encoding Rules are specified by the Rec. ITU-T X.696 | ISO/IEC 8825-7 Octet Encoding Rules (OER) Base Protocol document. The main advantage of OER messages is that they can be encoded/decoded significantly faster than BER and PER messages, while being only slightly less compact than PER messages. Take a look at an Overview of OER.

The samples included with some of the Knowledge Center answers are meant for your general understanding of the OSS products. Different versions of the products might produce slightly different outputs. Consult the products documentation and samples for the most up-to-date products information and code examples.
